| dc.description | This chapter challenges misconceptions around evaluation in development, emphasizing that PVO practitioners can conduct meaningful evaluations themselves using participatory, systematic, and simple methodologies. It highlights the shift from rigid, quantitative-only methods to more flexible, qualitative approaches grounded in organizational values. Evaluation is redefined as an ongoing part of program planning, not a post-hoc process. Ultimately, evaluation must support learning, decision-making, and empowerment at all levels—community, staff, and donors. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Our workshop series confronted the task of shaping these general propositions into a framework for doing evaluation. Time and again, the workshops had to vanquish misconceptions like the following about the mystique of evaluation: "Evaluation requires a complex research approach that is beyond our capabilities," "You need qualified specialists to produce acceptable evaluations." "Evaluation is some-thing AID does for us anyway." These laments came up frequently. Our most important accomplishment in the workshops was recognition that PVO PRACTITIONERS CAN DO QUALITY EVALUATION! | |
