Abstract
There are many reasons why Participatory Sociology has been introduced as an integral part of the Sociology Curriculum at Jamia. It is proper to say that the Pedagogic spirit and the substantive thrust behind Participatory Sociology provide Jamia's Sociology Curriculum its distinctive quality.
We will recall here the adventures in educational ideas and their practices which have gone into the establishment of Jamia. Nothing can capture the spirit of Jamia as do some of the verses that Dr. Zakir Hussain and his colleagues frequently quoted drawing their conviction and inspiration.
Description
The passage reflects on the spirit and vision behind the establishment of Jamia, highlighting the intellectual foundation shaped by Dr. Zakir Hussain and his colleagues. It emphasizes the need for Participatory Sociology to challenge conventional pedagogic practices and promote a more inclusive, holistic approach to learning. The shift from a teaching-centered to a learning-centered approach encourages creative, self-driven exploration and critical thinking. It also touches on epistemological concerns, acknowledging that knowledge is shaped by social and cognitive contexts, necessitating a deeper engagement with diverse perspectives and realities.
