Abstract

There is an interesting debate going on currently through the journal of Adult Education and Development on issues related evaluation of adult education important to programmes world wide. Many important issues have been raised in this debate. This reflection note is intended to contribute further to this debate.

Description

This note critically examines the evaluation of adult education programmes, emphasizing the dominance of donors and programme managers in the process. It highlights the exclusion of learners and field educators from meaningful participation, questioning the effectiveness of current evaluation practices. The piece argues for participatory evaluation as an integrated, reflective component of adult education to empower disadvantaged communities. It also explores the socio-cultural, organizational, and personal barriers that hinder genuine engagement in evaluation.
